DUBAI: An Iraqi born British physicist, Prof. Jim Al-Khalili, has called for rejuvenation of science advancement in the Arab and Muslim world by building infrastructures and changing attitude that science does not contradict religious beliefs.
He said the region used to be the cradle for invention. Al-Khalili was discussing on Friday his book Pathfinders: The Golden Age of Arabic Science at the Emirates Airline Literature Festival that concludes on Saturday at Intercontinental Hotel in Dubai.
Al-Khalili said countries such as “Iran and Turkey have invested in infrastructures, while the UAE, Qatar and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are also trying by bringing scientists into the region, but there is a very long way to go because this does not reach the wider part of the population.”
