Indonesian Judge sentences Grandmother to 2 1/2 years in jail for stealing Casava, and …

A true court case in Prabumulih, Lampung, Indonesia, in 2011:

A grandmother pleaded that she stole some cassava because her sick son and grand son were hungry.

The judge looked at the claimant, Pr Andalas, but he insisted that the case should go forward.

The judge then looked at the old women and stated:

“I cannot change the law. Consequently I sentence you to a fine of one million Rupias,
or, in case you cannot pay it, to 2 1/2 years in prison.”

The Grandma was bowed, her heart crushed, while the judge Marzuki removed his cap, opened his pocket and then took his wallet and put 1 million rupiah into his hat and addressed the people in the court:

‘I on behalf of the court, herewith fine each one attending this hearing 50’000 Rupiah, for settling in this city and allowing someone living here to starve so that she is forced to steal to feed her children and grand children.’

Three and a half million Rupia were collected. The fine of one million was paid and the Grandmother went home with the balance.

This true story of the Indonesian court in which the judge named Marzuki gave a decision, which could be regarded as the first one of this kind and nature.
Here one feels at odd to note that the judge, while attending the court had with him such a large amount of one million Rupiah in his pocket,which he put in his cap (hat) to use it as ‘kashkool’ to collect the fine money from the locals attending court proceedings. Anyhow this interesting episode reminds this scriber of a very useful mutually inter dependent social caring scheme initiated by Hadhrat Hafiz Mirza Nasir Ahmad Sahib, Khalifatul Masih Al-Salith(rmt)in which, His Holiness called upon all Ahmadi Muslims through out the world to check and see that none amongst their neighbors has gone to bed with empty belly or without taking night meal. This noble scheme of Hadhrat Al-Salith, had a very healthy social impact on the overall peaceful society, by the grace of Hod Almighty. This worthy Scheme requires to be revived for the betterment of social life as a whole and if done now again, it will be surely a source of spiritual solace and pleasure for all involved,InshaAllah.

It was coming under ‘top posts’ in The Muslim Times yesterday when i noticed it.

Reason why it was in top-posts can be that multiple people reading the same story at the same instance of time. Either some people were using Google search to find this story and reached here or because of some tag words for which this article was coming up in their search and internet users were opening the link to read the story. Else, some previous readers who read this story and emailed it to their friends would have opened it at the same instance of time. Knowing that The Muslim Times has a huge readership, coming under top-posts meant that many people reading the article at the same instance of time.

Great and divine-human example of how acts a REAL lightworker when his/her consciouness is guided by the heart. Moreover, it seems to me that judge Marzuki actually showed what means the term “responsibility” = response-ability !!!
