The usual reason shoe sellers want women to wear high heels is for the sexy, long-legged look. But Deichmann Graceland, a German shoe brand has come up with a new incentive: To make women tall enough to qualify for a promotion at work.
The ads show a closeup of the heels, with headlines such as”Men over 180 cm earn 10% more money” and “80% of top managers are over 180 cm tall.”
One hundred and eighty centimeters is a little more than 5 feet 10 inches. The height of an average German woman is about 165 centimeters, so she would need an almost six-inch heel to reach eye-level with those top managers. American women are a couple of inches shorter (and thus will never get promoted at German companies, the logic runs, unless they are wearing an impossible 7 inch heel).
