BALI, Indonesia, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and leaders of the 10 ASEAN member nations issued a joint statement Friday at a summit commemorating the 20th anniversary of the China-ASEAN dialogue relations in Bali, Indonesia. The following is the full text of the statement………

WE, the Heads of State/Government of the Member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the People’s Republic of China, gathered on 18 November 2011 in Bali, Indonesia, on the occasion of the 14th ASEAN-China Summit, to commemorate the Twentieth Anniversary of the ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations;
Editor’s Note:
Anotehr document named ASEAN Declaration on Cultural Diversity has also been signed at this occasion. The document promotes ASEAN Community and culture. It recognises the right of citizens of the region to conserve their cultural and artistic heritage.

I’m curious to know if there was further discussion about the single ASEAN visa during this recent summit. I’ve been reading for more than a year now that ASEAN is trying to convince all members to approve a single visa for the region. I think this is such a good idea, but I’ve read that some members are not on-board with the idea. A single visa would most likely help each country’s tourism industry and increase its popularity for travelers, workers, and investors. The visa would also help prevent so many people from overstaying visas in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and other popular destinations. Travelers and illegal immigrants with overstayed visas is currently a big problem in these countries. Approving this measure will take compromise between the ASEAN countries, especially those with conservative policies on immigration and visas. Please let me know if you have any information about this topic.
